To further advance and leverage on-going and new scientific collaborations in research areas of mutual interest, the second joint meeting “NIHS-EPFL Science day” took place on January 28th on the EPFL campus with a total of ar. 170 participants from both institutions.

The day started with opening remarks by Ed Baetge, director of NIHS, and Gisou van der Goot, dean of the Dept/School of Life Sciences at EPFL. This was followed by three scientific sessions highlighting research topics on “Metabolism”, “Microbiome” and “Brain Health”. Six speakers from each institute presented their cutting-edge science followed by intense and enthusiastic discussions.

Topics included
• molecular and systems control of circadian rhythms, adipose expansion and mitochondrial regulation on Metabolic Health using state of art omics technology and computational approaches;
• challenges, new molecular/therapeutic insights and technology development on microbiome research and their application to treat diseases;
• epidemiologic, epigenetic and molecular underpinning of cognitive decline and potential strategies for its improvement.

The NIHS-Nestlé Institute of Health Science is based at the Innovation Park of the Ecole Polytechnique Fédérale de Lausanne. Located here, NIHS is optimally positioned to develop strong research and educational collaborations/partnership with us.
